Chinatown eSIM: online among the temples and hawker centres
Chinatown mixes temple courtyards, shophouse streets and hawker centres, all within walking distance of Chinatown station. With the eSIM on from the airport, the first hawker stop is on the map.
- Chinatown station (NE4/DT19)
- Thian Hock Keng and Buddha Tooth Relic Temple
- Maxwell Food Centre and Chinatown Complex

The short answer
A Chinatown eSIM is installed at home before you fly and switched on when you land, with data roaming on for the line. Chinatown station (NE4/DT19) sits on the North East line and the Downtown line, and the temples, shophouses and hawker centres, from Thian Hock Keng to Maxwell Food Centre, are a short walk away.

Where the signal holds
- 4G and 5G
Singapore's four networks
Singtel, StarHub, M1 and SIMBA keep their own mobile and 5G pages. Read the network's own coverage pages for the buildings and routes on your trip.
- Not measured
The temples and the food centres
We have not measured signal inside the temples, the food centres or the shophouse arcades. Download your tickets and a map before you go in.
- Data roaming on
Your eSIM
The eSIM runs on a Singapore network and shows that network's name in your phone's settings. Turn data roaming on for the eSIM line.
Practical notes
- Getting thereChinatown station (NE4/DT19) is on the North East line and the Downtown line, and Maxwell station (TE18) is a short walk away at the edge of the neighbourhood.
- Getting aroundThe five precincts of Chinatown, from Kreta Ayer and Telok Ayer to Ann Siang and Bukit Pasoh, fit into one walk past shophouse rows and the Chinatown Heritage Centre, which was rebuilt from memories of early residents. Thian Hock Keng and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple are the area's landmark temples, and Maxwell Food Centre and Chinatown Complex offer dishes from different cuisines.
- PayingThe currency is the Singapore dollar (SGD), issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Contactless bank cards and mobile wallets work for payments around the city, and public transport also takes EZ-Link cards and the Singapore Tourist Pass.
- When to goSingapore is warm and humid all year. The Meteorological Service Singapore describes two monsoon seasons, the Northeast Monsoon from December to early March and the Southwest Monsoon from June to September, with inter-monsoon months between; rain falls in every month, and the wettest stretch runs from November to January.
Before you go (Chinatown)
Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and keep the line switched off until you land. Download offline maps and any tickets while you still have Wi-Fi, in case a temple or a food centre has no signal. On arrival, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line only.
