Switch your Singapore eSIM on when you land

  • Line on
  • Mobile data on the eSIM
  • Roaming only if needed

The short answer

In Singapore, bring the eSIM line online and hand it the mobile data role. Should data refuse to start, give the eSIM line data roaming and retry. The home line keeps data roaming off, so no charges can build up.

On the eSIM line

Bring the eSIM line up and make it the one that carries mobile data (iPhone calls this Cellular Data). When data will not start, flip data roaming on for the eSIM line and make another attempt. Switch off the option that moves mobile data between lines; the home line then cannot take the data role back.

On your home line

The usual SIM needs data roaming switched off. Calls and texts to your number still arrive if the line stays on, and your home carrier bills them as before.

Give it a minute

Give the phone a couple of minutes to pick up the network. The signal bars and the network’s name appear next to the eSIM line: one of Singapore’s networks, Singtel, StarHub, M1 or SIMBA.

If it fails (Switch it on after landing)

Follow not connecting, one check after the next. The 30 days after buying are the install window; a trip that starts beyond them needs a note to the store’s support before you install.
