The short answer

A Little India eSIM is installed at home before you fly and switched on when you land, with data roaming on for the line. Serangoon Road runs through the quarter, Little India station (NE7/DT12) is on the North East line and the Downtown line, and Tekka Centre and the Indian Heritage Centre sit along the streets.

Where the signal holds

  • 4G and 5G

    Singapore's four networks

Singtel, StarHub, M1 and SIMBA keep their own mobile and 5G pages. Read the network's own coverage pages for the buildings and routes on your trip.

  • Not measured

    Tekka and the temples

We have not measured signal inside Tekka Centre, the temples or the Indian Heritage Centre. Download a map and your tickets before you go in.

  • Data roaming on

    Your eSIM

The eSIM runs on a Singapore network and shows that network's name in your phone's settings. Turn data roaming on for the eSIM line.

Practical notes

  1. Getting thereLittle India station (NE7/DT12) is on the North East line and the Downtown line, and Jalan Besar station (DT22) is a short walk away at the edge of the quarter.
  2. Getting aroundSerangoon Road, one of Singapore's earliest roads, carries the quarter: garland stalls and shops line the way, Tekka Centre is an indoor wet market with fresh produce, spices and dried goods, and the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, built by Indian pioneers in the 19th century, is dedicated to Kali. The Indian Heritage Centre on Campbell Lane is open from 10am to 6pm and closed on Mondays.
  3. PayingThe currency is the Singapore dollar (SGD), issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Contactless bank cards and mobile wallets work for payments around the city, and public transport also takes EZ-Link cards and the Singapore Tourist Pass.
  4. When to goSingapore is warm and humid all year. The Meteorological Service Singapore describes two monsoon seasons, the Northeast Monsoon from December to early March and the Southwest Monsoon from June to September, with inter-monsoon months between; rain falls in every month, and the wettest stretch runs from November to January.

Before you go (Little India)

Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and keep the line switched off until you land. Download an offline map and any tickets while you still have Wi-Fi, in case a market or a temple has no signal. On arrival, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line only.
