Does your phone support eSIM? Check before you buy

  • Dial *#06#
  • Look for an EID
  • Unlocked phones only

The short answer

Punch in *#06# and read the result: an EID on the screen means the phone has an eSIM. It also needs to be unlocked, not tied to the carrier that sold it. iPhones bought in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao mostly have no eSIM.

Does my phone support eSIM?

The makers' own lists

A working eSIM is not refunded because a phone cannot install it, so check your phone before you buy.

If your phone is not on the list

Let the dial pad answer: type *#06#. An EID anywhere on that screen means the phone carries an eSIM. If it shows only IMEI numbers, it does not. The makers’ own lists, linked above, carry the final say.

On an iPhone

Start in Settings, keep going to General and then About. If this screen lists an EID, the iPhone can use an eSIM.

On an Android phone

In Settings, open About phone: an EID next to the IMEI numbers means eSIM, and dialling *#06# shows it too.

Carrier lock

Locked to the carrier that sold it? Then no other eSIM will run on it. Ask your carrier to unlock it before you travel.

Before you buy

A working eSIM stays outside the refund rule when the phone cannot install it. Check your phone first.
